Company

A place for persistent questions.

Sequential Inference is an independent research and engineering company. We study how decisions should be made under uncertainty, and we build the models and systems that this research requires.

Purpose

Build understanding that grows with new evidence.

Most consequential decisions are made before the evidence is complete. Information arrives in sequence, some of it is wrong, and the process producing it changes while it is being observed. The methods for reasoning in that setting — forming a belief, measuring its uncertainty, revising it and deciding when to act — deserve sustained and careful study.

That study is credible only when it is tested against reality, over long periods, by people who have to live with the results. An independent company is the setting in which we can do that work patiently.

We conduct research in sequential and causal inference, continual learning, model reliability and decision-making under uncertainty. We engineer the systems that let the research run: evidence pipelines, evaluation, state management and safeguards.

Financial markets are our primary research environment. They are fast, adversarial and unforgiving of self-deception, which makes them a demanding test of whether a method works. We develop our own research, trading and execution technology, and use it internally.

  1. Evidence discipline

Claims are proportioned to evidence. We say what we know, how we know it and how confident we are — and change our minds when the data requires it.

  2. Long-horizon building

We invest in foundations that compound: careful data, reproducible experiments, systems that can still be understood years from now. Direction matters more than speed.

  3. Measured learning

We adapt deliberately. New information is weighed, not chased, and every change is tested against what it might break.

Sequential Inference is

  • An independent research and engineering company.
  • Focused on decision-making under uncertainty, with financial markets as a primary domain.
  • A developer of its own research, trading and execution technology, used internally.

Sequential Inference is not

  • An investment manager or adviser to the public.
  • A broker, deposit-taker or retail trading service.
  • A seller of signals, strategies or investment products.
